How to Repair CAB File
CAB is the Microsoft windows native compressed archive format that supports compression and digital signing and is used in a variety of Microsoft installation engines like Device Installer, Advpack, Setup API and of course with the Windows Installer. It is a library where numerous compressed files are stored in a single file. It is used to organize installation files that are copied to the user’s system. A large compressed file can be spread over several .cab files.

.CAB file format allows for three different data compression methods.
- DEFLATE – This is invented by Phil Katz that has also written the ZIP file format
- Quantum – licensed from David Stafford, Author of Quantum Archiver
- LZX – invented by Jonathan Forbes and Tomi Poutanen, given to Microsoft when Jonathan joined the company
